Read a Sample of The Cross and the Crown… Luke 1:1-4 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set
forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed
among us, Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were
eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; It seemed good to me also, having
had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto
thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, That thou mightest know the
certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed. Acts 1:1-3 The former treatise have I made, O
Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Until the day in
which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given
commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: To whom also he shewed himself
alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty
days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: Matthew 26:1-5 And it came to pass, when Jesus had
finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, Ye know that after
two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be
crucified. Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and
the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called
Caiaphas, And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.
But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the
people. Mark 14:3-4 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon
the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of
ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on
his head. And there were some that had
indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment
made? John 12:4-6 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas
Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, Why was not this ointment
sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? This he said, not that he cared for the
poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put
therein. Mark 14:6-9 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble
ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. For ye have the poor with you
always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not
always. She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body
to the burying. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be
preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be
spoken of for a memorial of her. Luke 22:3-4 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed
Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way, and
communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto
them. Matthew 26:15 And said unto them, What will ye give me,
and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty
pieces of silver. Luke 22:6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to
betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude. Matthew 26:17 Now the first day of the feast of
unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt
thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? Luke 22:8-13 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and
prepare us the passover, that we may eat. And they said unto him, Where wilt
thou that we prepare? And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into
the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him
into the house where he entereth in. And ye shall say unto the goodman of the
house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall
eat the passover with my disciples? And he shall shew you a large upper room
furnished: there make ready. And they went, and found as he had said unto
them: and they made ready the passover. Luke 22:14-16 And when the hour was come, he sat down,
and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have
desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat
thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. John 13:1-20 Now before the feast of the passover, when
Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world
unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them
unto the end. And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart
of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; Jesus knowing that the Father
had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went
to God; He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel,
and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to
wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was
girded. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost
thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and
said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I
wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord,
not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him, He that
is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye
are clean, but not all. For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he,
Ye are not all clean. So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his
garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done
to you? Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then,
your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one
another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have
done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than
his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know
these things, happy are ye if ye do them. I speak not of you all: I know whom
I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread
with me hath lifted up his heel against me. Now I tell you before it come,
that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that
receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth
him that sent me. Mark 14:18-21 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said,
Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me. And
they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and
another said, Is it I? And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the
twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish. The Son of man indeed goeth, as it
is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed!
good were it for that man if he had never been born. John 13:23-26 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one
of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him,
that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake. He then lying on Jesus'
breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I
shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he
gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. Matthew 26:25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered
and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said. John 13:27-30 And after the sop Satan entered into him.
Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly. Now no man at the
table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. For some of them thought,
because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things
that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to
the poor. He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was
night. End of excerpt from The Birth of Christ. |
